SMEs and OH
Dr Pippa Leighton
Small and medium enterprises account for around 50% of turnover in the UK private sector and employ 60% of the UK workforce.
Yet many SMEs do not use occupational health (OH) services- 50% of the UK workforce do not have access to OH.
Reasons include the perceived expense of an OH service and lack of available information on nearby OH services.
The first concern has been directly addressed in the 2023 Spring Budget. The government is planning to support more SMEs to contract OH services, via the expansion of a pilot subsidy scheme for SMEs originally announced in 2021. There are also plans to incentivise greater uptake of OH provision through tax reliefs.
There are also plans to consult on: improving access to OH providers; developing regulations for OH provisions; formalising accreditation for OH providers and increasing the OH workforce.
This is now a great time to contact an OH service such as ourselves. You can talk directly to one of our doctors about your requirements without any commitment. We provide both pay-as-you-go and longer term services for all business types.
